A RISE local development grant of up to $283,027 for the City of Iowa City,to extend Northgate Drive to open access for office park lots, was approved Tuesday by the Iowa Department of Transportation Commission. The funds will cover half the cost of extending Northgate Drive, northeast of Interstate 80 and Highway 1, in attempts to add professional office space and tax base to the Iowa City community and tax base. The grant was awarded under the RISE Local Development program.
This extension of Northgate Drive is a critical piece of the recently platted 40-acre development known as Highlander Fourth Addition, with Part 1 including a total of 10 new 1-2 acre commercial office lots. In the future, Part 2 will add another 8 lots of similar use and size to the west of Part 1. HBK Engineering, LLC has provided the survey and civil engineering services for the platting process and construction documents related to these improvements, as well as assisted SouthGate Development and the City of Iowa City with the RISE Grant application process.
Construction of the infrastructure for the public improvements is anticipated to begin this summer
