Mercy Home for Boys and Girls: Halloween Haunted House

HBK was invited back by popular demand to create another Haunted House for the children of Mercy Home and their annual Halloween celebration.  This year’s theme was “haunted construction site” and even featured a haunted Foreman’s trailer.  Thank you to all the HBK employees who built and ran the festivities on October 30th!      

Iowa Halloween Parade

Saturday, October 27th was HBK’s first time entering a float in the Cedar Rapids Newbo Czech Village Halloween Parade.  Proceeds from this festive, family friendly event benefit both Mission of Hope and Tanager Place.  Mission of Hope offers programs that provide hot food and safe shelter to those who need it most while Tanager Place focuses on the mental health and well-being of children by

ChildServ’s Annual Founder’s Day Gala

WEN Empowerment Breakfast

On Thursday, October 25th HBK joined the Women’s Energy Network in celebrating women in STEM at their EmPOWERment Forum.  The morning featured keynote speaker, Kelly Tomblin, CEO of Intren and her experiences studying leadership, power, economic equality, and social consciousness as well as a presentation of the 2018 POWERful Woman Award.     

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: “Light the Night”

Dare to Dream Gala

On October 20th, 2018 HBK sponsored the annual gala for Dare to Dream: Get Educated! New Life for Haiti “Keeping Dreams Alive”

West Central Association 100 Year Celebration

Movie Premier: This Changes Everything

On Sunday, October 14th HBK employees and Strive members attended a movie premier for the film, “This Changes Everything” as part of Chicago’s International Film Festival.  The movie takes an investigative look at gender disparity in Hollywood featuring personal testimonies from countless actresses and directors such as Meryl Streep, Geena Davis, Shonda Rhimes, Rashida Jones, and Tiffany Haddish.  Movie-goers were later treated to a Q&A session with the director,

2018 APWA Iowa Chapter Conference

The American Public Works Association (APWA) Iowa Chapter hosted their 2018 Fall Conference in Iowa City!  This conference is recognized for offering excellent opportunities for members to expand knowledge, network, elect officers, and recognize award winners.  HBK employees spent the beautiful fall morning doing just that, and even won the competition for “Highest Score” and “Women’s Longest Drive.”

MSI: Science Works Career Fair

On Saturday, October 13th HBK attended the Museum of Science and Industry’s 6th annual “Science Works Career Fair!”  HBK was 1 of over 45 companies that participated, making this year’s celebration the largest one yet with over 7,000 museum attendees.  Companies are asked to demonstrate how science works in the “real-world”, sending a message that anyone with a passion can become a scientist or engineer. 

Chicago Hawkeye Pitch-Off

On Thursday, October 11th HBK was a judge at the University of Iowa’s first ever Hawkeye Pitch-Off in Chicago.  This “Shark Tank” style competition gave contestants an opportunity to compete for seed funding to support their business.  Contestants were given the opportunity to network with local businesses and investors before giving a quick 5-minute attention-grabbing pitch on why they should win support.  The evening resulted in

Schuylkill Banks River Clean-up

On Friday, October 12th HBK in Pennsylvania took time to lend a hand cleaning up their neighborhood at the Schuylkill River Development Corporation.  Volunteers cleaned up the riverbank and beautified the surrounding area with freshly planted greenery.  Thank you to our East Coast volunteers for getting out there and making an impact!   

Women’s Energy Network Panel Discussion

On Thursday, October 11th HBK participated in a WEN Panel Discussion at the Catalyst Ranch in Chicago.  The panel featured a ComEd rates manager, an attorney who represents rate cases, and an ICC representative who all shared their advice and experiences with the subject.  Discussions and networking opportunities like this are just one of the many benefits WEN provides as an international association for women professionals.
