HBK held a company-wide Ice Cream Social on August 1. Employees were treated to ice cream at all HBK locations. The events celebrated all of our employees hard work and helped make the summer's end just a little bit sweeter. In Chicago and Oak Brook, a vintage Good Humor truck offered ice cream bars for everyone while the other locations served treats from nearby ice cream shops.
HBK interns joined together for an IMPACT volunteer event at the ChildServ Group Home in Downers Grove on Friday, August 2. They worked to beautify the location by painting the living room a cream color and weeding the outdoor garden space to make it ready for planting a garden. Two HBK division managers painted the downstairs bathroom a light pink color and added a matching rug and shower curtain. ChildServ’s group homes provide safe, supportive places for youth ages 12-19 who have suffered from trauma. The teens live in a home environment, receive quality therapy and the encouragement they need to complete high school so that they can become empowered adults.
The 2018-2019 HBK IMPACT Awards Luncheons took place over the last three weeks of July to recognize employees who participated in the community outreach volunteer program. Prizes were awarded to those who contributed the most hours.
Preparing snacks for families with loved ones in the hospital was the task taken on by HBK IMPACT volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House Family Center in Cedar Rapids on July 31. Employees of HBK's Cedar Rapids office cut melons, prepared sandwiches, and bagged grapes, pretzels, Goldfish crackers, and carrots, for use by family center visitors.
HBK participated in the USA's only National 811 Day celebration that held on an underground utility construction job site. Nearly 50 contractors participated in The Planet Underground Roundtable Live was held August 8 in Manteno, IL. HBK presented a live boring project from the design phase to construction.
HBK was pleased to participate in the 18th Angels in the Fairway Golf Outing on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Grand Geneva Resort. The event is presented by the Joey's Angel's Chapter of the Leukemia Research Foundation, a non profit organization which has raised more than $2.4 million dollars since being established in 1996 in memory of a young leukemia victim.
HBK was pleased to participate in the Chicago Scholars Foundation Swing for Scholars Golf Tournament on Monday, August 12, 2019, at the Naperville Country Club. Swing for Scholars is an annual event created to benefit Chicago Scholars. Chicago Scholars is a seven-year college access, success and leadership development program for financially under-resourced and first-generation Chicago students.
HBK was pleased to be a sponsor of the 11th Annual I Gotta Guy Sausage Festival on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Galleria Marchetti in Chicago. About 600 people attended the event benefitting the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research Foundation and its Efforts to fund Schaaf-Yang Syndrome Research.
On August 21, HBK joined in the 2019 Women's Energy Summit at the W Chicago - City Center. The event brought together powerful women in the energy and environmental sectors to discuss pertinent issues, network and hear presentations. Topics ranged from Leadership in a Changing World: How CEOs Navigate Shifting Energy Landscapes, to Future of Energy is Bright: Technology, Innovation to Clean Energy Solutions to Making #HERstory: The Rise of Female Energy Regulators.
HBK Division Manager Amy Ashbacker recently visited Mozambique, Africa, for 15 days, through Children’s Relief International with four others from Cedar Rapids. The purpose of the July 21 to August 5 trip was to provide assistance to people in the Dondo region who were suffering from the devastation of Cyclone Idai in March, one of the worst tropical cyclones on record to hit Africa.
