HBK Engineering is searching for a Field Engineer to work on one of our fiber to the home projects in Boise, ID.  This person will gather field survey measurements using Total Station or GPS survey equipment, along with measuring equipment to provide complete and accurate field data. This person will also assist with day-to-day company operations related to permitting. This position involves supporting the CAD/Design team in administrative duties, organizing, tracking, applying for and obtaining permits from governing agencies for construction installation.  This role also involves considerable internal coordination amongst various client teams.  Our firm offers a professional work environment, excellent benefits, competitive salary and growth potential.

 

Description:

  • Provide engineering support and data collection in the field for projects in various stages of design and construction
  • Conducts surveys to ascertain the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the surface and underground
  • Adjusts and operates surveying instruments such as Total Station and/or GPS survey equipment.
  • Perform make ready engineering for aerial plant
  • Records survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, and sketches.
  • Searches for property corners and survey monuments.
  • Positions and holds vertical rods or targets that Total Station operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
  • Lay out and recovers stakes, marks, and other monumentation.
  • Performs surveys of existing utility and/or street light poles utilizing total station, rangefinders, di-electric height sticks, target poles and/or GPS survey equipment
  • Perform manhole inspections.
  • Perform value-based engineering approach to determine best construction route and placement method.
  • Ability to take detailed field notes and photographs.
  • Assist Project Managers with the preparation and maintenance of engineering and construction schedules
  • Receive, review, forward and track status of submittals
  • Assist in preparation of monthly project status reports
  • Attend project meetings and record meeting minutes
  • Assist in project close-out
  • Coordinate permit requests and scheduling with various governmental agencies acting as a liaison for clients. (i.e. County, DOT, municipalities, pole owners, etc.).
  • Meet with internal teams and/or government agencies for project updates and assist with any issues.
  • Manage permit expirations and renewals and coordinate with contractors.
  • Organize and track all permits.
  • Coordination insurance certificates, as required by permit jurisdictions.
  • File proper paperwork required to obtain Permits.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as Telecom OSP Field Engineer
  • Familiar with the civil aspects of construction: aerial plant, underground utilities, directional drilling, various placement techniques, etc.
  • Willing to travel over 50% of the time on assignments
  • Must have excellent PC skills in MS Word and Excel
  • Experience with AutoCAD or ESRI ArcGIS is desired but not required
  • Ability to work outside and utilize a 40’ height stick, record GPS data and fill out attribute tables, complete make ready engineering per NESC and pole owner’s requirements.
