Johnson County was awarded a $75,000 innovation grant from the State of Iowa to study permeable paver systems across the state for the next two years. The study will include small backyard patios to parking lots and city streets.
Urban Conservationist, Amy Bouska, is heading a team made up of state conservationists, local engineers, installers, and experts from the University of Iowa. Observations will be made on how much water is captured and put back into the soil by these systems and how they slow down and cool off the excess water that they collect. This project will provide much needed data on how this paving application really works in Iowa. As the engineering partner in this project, HBK is providing technical support and data analysis for the paver design criteria.
