Quanta Services to Acquire Blattner Holding Company


HOUSTON, Sept. 2, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Quanta Services, Inc. (NYSE: PWR) announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Blattner Holding Company (Blattner), one of the largest and leading utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure solutions provider in North America. Founded in 1907 and headquartered in Avon, Minnesota, Blattner provides front-end engineering, procurement, project management and construction services to leading renewable energy developers for wind, solar and energy storage projects. Through its geographically and technologically diverse capabilities, Blattner has completed or been awarded more than 300 wind projects (+49 GW installed generating capacity), more than 90 solar projects (+12 GW installed generating capacity) and 17 energy storage projects. Over the last several years, Blattner has achieved double-digit organic revenue and profit growth by leveraging its operational expertise and collaborative customer relationships. Blattner generated full-year 2020 revenues and adjusted EBITDA (a non-GAAP measure) of approximately $2.4 billion and $291 million, respectively. HBK Acquires Brandow & Johnston, Inc.


HBK Engineering, LLC (HBK) has acquired Brandow & Johnston Inc. as of January 1, 2018. The new legal name of this California entity will be B&J HBK, Inc. It will operate as “Brandow & Johnston” an affiliate of HBK.

HBK Expands to Cedar Rapids

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors has chosen Iowa City-based HBK Engineering


HBK staff are excited to work with their project partner, Iowa Valley Resource, Conservation and Development (IVRC&D), to create a Master Plan for Johnson County’s Poor Farm site. The 160 acre site was originally set aside by the County in 1855 to provide care for the poor and mentally ill. According to the Johnson County Historical Society, “From the earliest days, ‘inmates’ were expected to do farm chores to the extent of their abilities. The farm was to be self-supporting and the labor of the inmates would help compensate the County for their care. Crop farming and dairy production were primary functions of the farm until the 1960’s.” The “First Johnson County Asylum” is located on this site and is listed on the national Register of Historic Places.

HBK Featured in the Corridor Business Journal


HBK Iowa City office was featured in the Corridor Business Journal today for worked perform on a new mixed-use building going up in Coralville. HBK assisted with the rezoning process, development of the site plan, stormwater plan, structural design of the underground parking and five-stories of commercial/residential units above the parking, plus the MEP design/build process.

Sandra Arredondo joins HBK's Executive Team


Sandra Arredondo, joins HBK's Executive Team as the new Chief Administrative Officer (and Chief Human Resources Officer) overseeing HBK's functional support areas:  HR, IT, AR, AP, Community and Facilities. She will help create strong synergy between these  functional support areas as they continue to bring great value to the organization.  Sandra has over 20 years of HR leadership experience within organizations such as GE, NBC and Tribune.  Most recently as SVP of HR at Tribune Media she had responsibility for overseeing all of broadcasting’s human resources functions across 42 local television and 2 radio stations consisting of 5,000+ employees.  Sandra has gained tremendous experience integrating employee populations and human resource functions following large-scale mergers and acquisitions during her time at GE and NBC.  Sandra has a Master’s Degree in Labor Relations and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana.  We look forward to Sandra lending her expertise in building our internal services areas here at HBK.

DONALD N. KLEYWEG, P.E.Don Kleyweg, P.E. is now a Senior Vice President.  Don has been with HBK since 2005 and has played a vital role in the growth and success of the company. With almost two decades of experience in capital program development, design and construction management of electrical utility projects, Don is highly regarded by customers and partners in the industry.  Don has helped secure and lead work at HBK in several areas, including electrical substation design, overhead and underground electrical transmission line design and gas opportunities, with an emphasis on constructability. As the executive leading the delivery of work to our largest customer, Don has earned their managements’ confidence as a dependable part of their team.  Don was also instrumental in assisting with the opening of our Oakbrook office and now oversees its operation.



WEST LIBERTY, IA – Community planners from HBK, a planning, design, and engineering firm located in Iowa City, are hosting a public kick-off meeting to discuss the process for updating West Liberty’s 2006 Comprehensive Plan.  A Comprehensive Plan provides a snapshot of the community’s municipal infrastructure, businesses and parks/ trails, while capturing a vision for the future growth of the community. This event will provide a brief introduction to the project team and the process for creating the plan, and then ask participants to share their ideas. The event will be held on Monday, May 16th from 6:30-7:30 at the West Liberty Community Center. This meeting is free and open to the public and there will be a Spanish translator present. Refreshments will be provided.

HBK Recent Promotions


Marc KatzMarc Katz, P.E. has been promoted to HBK’s Leadership Team as a Gas Sector Lead and will work collaboratively with Dan Rest and Brian Powers. Marc has shown outstanding leadership and technical capabilities in developing and managing HBK’s Gas Sector work with Nicor. Marc joined HBK in Oak Brook in March of 2014.  His previous experience includes working for Crawford, Murphy, and Tilly, Inc., where he performed design, construction management and project management in the aviation, highway and bridge sectors.  As a Gas Sector Lead, Marc will be responsible for further developing HBK’s Gas Sector client base and for diversifying Gas Sector service offerings as well as fostering HBK’s current client relationships and programs. Marc will provide a full time Leadership Team presence in the Oak Brook office, and he will provide an interface between his Leadership Team peers and Oak Brook staff regarding general Oak Brook office operations.
